Made famous by the movie "South Pacific," Lumahai is a stunning beach with golden sand stretching along a rugged coastline. 🥾 Top Hiking Trails

Explore Kauai's dramatic landscapes on foot

Kalalau Trail (Na Pali Coast)

The iconic Kalalau Trail follows the spectacular Na Pali Coast for 11 miles from Haena to Kalalau. The first few miles are accessible to most hikers and lead through the Hanakapiai Valley with views of waterfalls and the dramatic coastline. Permits are required for overnight hikes, but day hikes to Hanakapiai Falls (2 miles) or Hanakapiai Beach (4 miles) are popular options.

Canyon Trail to Waimea Canyon

Known as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific," Waimea Canyon offers stunning views of deep red walls and verdant valleys. The Canyon Trail leads to Waipoo Falls and offers several viewpoints overlooking the canyon's dramatic terrain. Morning hikes are recommended as afternoon clouds often obscure the views.

This challenging but rewarding trail climbs through the interior of the island from the North Shore to the central plateau. The 6.5-mile trail offers incredible views and passes through diverse terrain including agricultural land, forest, and open ridge lines. You'll need a 4WD vehicle or significant stamina to handle the road approach.

Named for its resemblance to a sleeping giant when viewed from the east, this trail offers excellent views of the Wailua River valley and the East Shore. The trail climbs through a eucalyptus forest to a rocky peak. The West Trail (Wailua) is the more popular route, though the East Trail (Kapaa) offers a longer, more secluded experience.

Okolehao Trail

A challenging stair-master workout that rewards hikers with panoramic views of the Wailua River and the East Shore coastline. The trail climbs steeply through tropical forest, crossing several streams along the way. The summit offers 360-degree views that make the effort worthwhile.
